Alexander’s army

  Alexander had many armies over the years, but one of the most impressive, by far, was one that consisted of 44,000 men wielding 18-foot long spears that could battle in terrible weather, the best trained archers in the state, javelin throwers, catapults able to hurl stones, mobile siege towers, and more. The persian war was a fierce one, but Alexander powered through. It’s amazing what one 18-25 year old man can do with a few spears.  

Once, Alexander faced a surprise attack by the River Granicus, but the Persians had a weakness: they were fighting from heavy war chariots, which Alexander’s army defeated quickly. 

Slowly but surely, Alexander released Greek cities from the deadly grasp of the Persians. 

A big threat that Alexander was facing was a ruler named Darius.
